Facts:
1. Comics are awesome. I know so little about the medium, but what little I’ve experienced has left me hungry for more, be it Warren Ellis probing what it means to be superhuman, or Grant Morrison talking about how superheroes embody eternal human qualities. Most recently, I’m enjoying DC’s massive reboot - I only wish I could afford to spend more time looking into this very special form of storytelling.
2. Simone Bianchi is an incredible artist. Everything about this illustration of the Black Panther is downright yummy.

Discovering Aquaman
I finally caved and purchased my first of DC’s rebooted titles. I always imagined that when the time came for me to finally get into comics, it would be with Green Lantern, but I went with Aquaman…and I’m very pleasantly surprised.

I seriously can’t get over how gorgeous this is. You would think that Aquaman’s costume would be the cheesiest part of the story, but the light reflects off his scales in the most amazing way.
The writing also deserves mention. Geoff Johns does a great job of keeping the mood light, while maintaining Aquaman’s air of dignity. In fact, it gets to a point where you start to feel irritated on his behalf. After one Aquaman joke too many, I was like:

Aquaman has had just about enough of your bullshit.
What I’m not so thrilled about is The Trench. The carnivorous-things-rise-from-the-ocean-depths plotline seems a bit obvious, and I really hope they move beyond it soon (or at least do something really interesting with it).
Otherwise, I’m really looking forward to seeing this character develop. As things currently stand, he’s a child of two worlds, and a stranger to both. That must be a very lonely place to be.
Curious about cities, patterns, design, and marginalia. I use the word 'narrative' a lot. Emmanuel is Ghanaian, and a long way from home. Nice to meet you. (@equartey, Pinterest, email, ask)
